Had this not been 1942, and had we not been fighting in one of the bloodiest conflicts in mankind’s history, then perhaps things would have been different. Rudolph Shultz to give him his full name, a porky butcher’s shop owner from the south side of Berlin. Battlefield 2142 might not be extraordinary, but it still got excitement and fun. This morning I was killed by a man called Shultz. Hopefully it will inspire players to join squads, get mic'd up, and work together as a team. Most importantly, team play has been preserved and even made more advantageous.

Now they just need to get the stat reporting to work correctly and players can have more fun playing with their new gadgets. The changes to unlocks are definitely interesting and come out looking better after a longer time playing the game thanks to quicker progression through the ranks. That said, the addition of Titan mode is certainly welcome to those of us that were clamoring for objective-based play. That's not to say there isn't fun to be had, it's just almost like the game is taking itself too seriously. Some of the Battlefield magic just isn't quite there. There's something missing that's hard to really figure out. Overall Battlefield 2142, even with the look and feel of a well polished mod, is a pretty worthy addition to the franchise, even with the price tag. But if the package is worth thirty bucks to you, I say go for it. There is still only Assault: Conquest mode, which is largely why I don't recommend to those of you who didn't dig BF2. What you get with Special Forces boils down to a batch of maps (albeit well-designed ones), some slightly new weapons to choose from, and a few new vehicles. And aerial targets are still pretty difficult to take down. Tanks will still eat infantry for breakfast, with the APC not far behind when in the hands of an experienced operator. You can still get capped, wait to respawn, make your way back to the action, and get cut down as quickly as before (although this isn't nearly as pronounced as it was in, say, Joint Operations). If BF2 never clicked with you or you became frustrated with slow map loads, then SF isn't likely to change your mind. If you got a lot of mileage out of BF2 but got bored, I think the new maps and vehicles will reinvigorate your jones.
